There are many questions in life which many of them we will have no answers. But some of them we catch a glimpse of the answers through revealed sources like books and researches and personal experience. But today let us see if we can get some answers to these questions - Why Christmas? Why celebrate Christmas?
This is the Bible. Christians hold it and believe it as the word of God. I would like to share two verses from the Bible.
A Saviour is born and He is Christ the King ?
Who is this Saviour here referring to? Yes it refers to Jesus. What do a Saviour do? He saves. Saves from what, the next logical question to ask? God sent this Saviour Jesus to take the punishment of death for our sins (wrong doings, speech, thoughts and attitudes) and He was buried and on the third day, He was risen from death to life. This is what the Saviour do. What has this Saviour got to do with me? Notice the "i" in the word "Saviour". Let us take "i" out from the word, and what word do we have? It is the word "savour". It means "taste" and "enjoy" or "push to try out". This brings me to share the 2nd verse. The first verse is ....
The 2nd verse from the word of God is:
Taste (Savour) and see that the Lord is good. Psalm 34:8
The Lord refers to God; or the Saviour. The word "good" refers to God's blessings, past, present and future.
How can we know that the Lord is good? Taste and see. Savour and see for yourself. How can I know that the Sin Huat apples @Tiong Bahru are good and juicy? Taste and see. Have a bite. How can we know that the durians from this supplier is good? Smell, Taste and see and you will recommend it or not. How did you know that the turkey was good? Take a bite and see. Savour it with sauce and pepper.
This verse Taste and see that the Lord is good is an invitation. If I want to taste and see, how do I do it? I simply let the Lord know I accept the invitation through telling Him in words like this, "Dear God, thank you for Jesus. I want to taste and see that You are good. Let me experience Your goodness. I ask in Jesus' name. Amen." With that, we receive His invitation and God will show His goodness more clearly to you.
This is one of the reason we celebrate Christmas; to celebrate His coming and to save us so we may savour Him.
If any of you wants to taste God's goodness by saying the words just now, I am going to say it once more and you can repeat it in your heart.
"Dear God, thank you for Jesus. I want to taste and see that You are good. Let me experience Your goodness. I ask in Jesus' name. Amen."
Welcome to God's family.
