Book Review - Title: Life Management for Busy Women by Elizabeth George

Here is an excellent and practical book, written by Elizabeth George. She shares her discoveries with answers from God’s Word concerning a woman’s priorities and purpose in life. It is like an expanded version of Luke 2:52: ‘And Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and man.’ I like the life management topics covered in this book and I hope you will find useful and practical help for your life:
Managing Your Spiritual Life
Managing Your Physical Life
Managing Your Home Life
Managing Your Financial Life
Managing Your Social Life
Managing Your Mental Life
Managing Your Ministry Life
Managing Your Time and Your Life

Here is an excerpt from Chapter One, Developing a Passion for God’s Word, on how to put priority in God’s Word:

‘Three Simple Steps. Here’s a little three-step method that helps us tend to first things first … no matter how busy we are.
1. Time is first on the list. Decide on time spent in God’s Word is time well spent.
2. First Time. Aim at giving the first minutes of each day reading God’s Word.
3. Early Time. Begin early taking the examples from Abraham, David and Jesus.’

Discover God’s guidelines for each of these areas as you check out this. Other titles by Elizabeth George are:
1. A Woman’s After God’s Own Heart
2. A Woman’s High Calling
3. Loving God with All Your Mind

Book Review - Title: Not By Sight - A Fresh Look at Old Stories of Walking by Faith by Jon Bloom

Jon Bloom writes: “The purpose of this little book is to imaginatively reflect on the real experiences of real people in the Bible in order to help you grasp and live what it means to “trust in the LORD with all your heart, and…not lean on your own understanding.” Its goal is to help you believe in Jesus while living in a very confusing and painful world (pg. 18).”

This book surely has given me a FRESH way of understanding how much Jesus has impacted individuals who crossed His path – individuals by faith whose lives were changed as God drew them to Himself. Jon Bloom through his devotional style of story-telling, leads us through several Old and New Testament Bible stories, to essential lessons we can learn from the people in the stories who encounter God and Jesus. These people include James Zebedee, the adulteress, Zacchaeus, Thomas, Peter, Joseph the carpenter, John the Baptist, Paul and many others.

A few stories impressed me in movie style as I read through the book, namely how the adulteress though not being stoned by the mob and forgiven by Jesus, have to face family and friends with new found faith; how Zacchaeus after Jesus’ invitation and words would show up at a household with bags of money to pay them back fourfold; how Jesus’ siblings who eventually became Christ’s followers gives us hope for our unbelieving loved ones and how Paul in prison continues to speak and encourage his visitor friend that Jesus has been worth it all.

I strongly recommend this book for those who enjoy short stories. God will use this book to enthuse you to read your Bible faithfully and reflectively.
