Book Review - Title: On This Holy Night – The Heart of Christmas

Contributions by: Max Lucado, Rick Warren, David Jeremiah, John Maxwell, Jack Hayford, Bill Hybels

This book is a good treat where we have six authors, each contributing a sermon on the theme of Christmas and all six sermons put together in one place – all centered on this special day; this special night of Christmas.

Six beloved Christian authors share from a unique perspective and help you hear afresh the message God wants to whisper to your heart during this holiday. God loves you. God is with you. God is in every detail of your life. The message of Christmas is the message of eternity. (From the book cover)

Will I get discouraged when I follow a star and later find a stable, a baby boy, born in a manger? Why was Jesus born in a manger; of all the places, why a manger? We heard Mary’s exhortation. Did we hear Joseph’s prayer through the events of Christmas? Of all the names in the world, why name the baby ‘Jesus’? Can I uncover many more discoveries at Christmas besides the usual gift exchanges during this season?

Quotes in the book:
God still looks for Josephs today. Men and women who believe that God is not through with this world. Common people who serve an uncommon God. ~ Max Lucado

When I preach about Jesus on the radio and people hear it in their car, Jesus comes into their hearts and changes their lives. ~ David Jeremiah

Now, how do I let Christ save me?... And one of the things that all lifeguards know is that you can’t save anybody as long as they’re trying to save themselves because they’ll take you under the water with them… Once they give up, it’s really easy – you just put your arm over their shoulder and swim back to shore. There’s nothing to it. ~ Rick Warren

One amazing thing that wows me is the wonder of the Creator God, Almighty God, the maker of heaven and earth, of every matter we see and cannot see; He is being born through the virgin Mary; as a baby, fragile and small; insignificant and vulnerable. And He conquered death and lives to be our Savior and Lord, now and forevermore.

Be drawn to the heart of Christmas - Jesus.
